Basic policy
Summit Pharmaceuticals Europe S.r.l. as a proud member of the Sumitomo Corporation Group, acknowledges the global scale of environmental issues and their significant impact on future generations. Recognizing its responsibility to foster sustainable development that harmonizes social, economic, and environmental progress, SPE commits to conducting its business activities with a strong emphasis on environmental preservation.
In line with its commitment to transparency and communication, the Company ensures that this Environmental Policy is communicated to all its employees, stakeholders, and the public, demonstrating its full commitment to environmental stewardship.
Target
In pursuing its diversified business activities within Europe and other territories, Summit Pharmaceuticals Europe S.r.l. shall comply with the following guidelines, and work to achieve the aims of its environmental Basic Policy.
1. Basic stance with regard to the environment:
to place great importance on protecting the global environment as a good corporate citizen in accordance with the Sumitomo Corporation’s Activity Guidelines.
2. Compliance with environmental legislation:
to strictly observe all applicable legal and regulatory requirements regarding the sale, import and transport of products which may cause harm to the environment, or to the health and safety of those exposed to such products, and to abide by any agreements made. Each member shall note that laws and regulations relating to, amongst others, the following areas will or may be relevant to our business activities:
- Generation, handling disposal and transformative movement of wastes concerning office activities.
- Discharge to water of pollutants or emission to air of pollutants deriving from purchased electricity.
- Classification, packaging, labelling and transportation of chemical substances. Clean-up of spills or releases of chemicals or hazardous materials.
3. Caring for the natural environment:
To place great importance on preserving the environment, including the natural ecosystem and biodiversity.
4. Response to climate change:
To place great importance on mitigating climate change and adapting to its impact.
5. Efficient use of resources and energy:
To be mindful of the finite availability of resources and energy and strive to use them both efficiently and effectively.
6. Contributing to the building of a recycling-oriented society:
To endeavor to help build a recycling-oriented society by reducing waste and reusing and recycling resources.
7. Promotion of businesses that contribute to environmental preservation:
To utilize our integrated corporate strength to promote businesses and projects, which contribute to environmental preservation and reduction of the impact of society on the natural environment.
8. Establishment of environmental management:
To use an environmental management system to prevent environmental pollution and set environmental objectives and targets which are regularly updated.
9. Disclosure of the environmental policy:
To communicate this Environmental Policy to all people who are working for or on behalf of Summit Pharmaceuticals Europe, as well as disclosing it externally.
Initiatives
Summit Pharmaceuticals Europe S.r.l. is dedicated to implementing a range of initiatives aimed at promoting environmental sustainability. The company actively pursues energy-efficient practices, such as optimizing energy consumption and maintaining and improving the energy efficiency measures that are already in place and followed stringently.
Waste reduction is another key focus, with efforts to minimize waste generation and enhance recycling and reusing programs, highlighting their environmental benefits. Additionally, Summit Pharmaceuticals Europe S.r.l. is committed to reducing its carbon footprint by adopting green transportation solutions and encouraging sustainable commuting options for its employees through the assignment of low-emission vehicles. To further reduce CO2 emissions the Company is focused on transitioning its company fleet to hybrid vehicles.
Summit Pharmaceuticals Europe S.r.l. tracks GHG emissions, with annual reviews and audits to measure progress and identify areas for improvement. The results of such monitoring activities are presented in SPE’s regular Sustainability Reports.
